ST. LOUIS – The DePaul Foundation has received a $720,000 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The five-year grant will fund a shared accountability program geared toward nursing retention at SSM DePaul Health Center. The HHS grant is the largest grant awarded to the DePaul Foundation to date.
"As a nurse, I am especially interested in the quality of SSM DePaul’s nursing care," said Melinda Clark, RN, SSM DePaul president/CEO. "It is imperative to recruit and retain high quality nurses to care for the growing needs of our patients."
The shared accountability concept focuses on the ability to place power in the hands of the nursing staff to make meaningful practice changes and improve patient care quality. The HHS grant will provide the funds to direct nursing energies toward improving two major issues – access to emergency department care and enhancement of geriatric population care.
This year, SSM DePaul Health Center celebrates 175 years of providing exceptional health care for St. Louis-area residents. SSM DePaul, located at I-70
and I-270, is the first hospital established west of the Mississippi and is the oldest, continuously operating business in St. Louis. Today, as a part of SSM Health Care, DePaul provides advanced medical technology in the areas of cardiac, cancer, emergency, seniors and women’s health while promoting a healthy community through a variety of educational programs.
